Compliance-Systeme zur Unterstützung der kulturellen Entwicklung eines Unternehmens versuchen, durch gezielte Gestaltung von Anreizen, Selektions- und Bewertungsprozessen sowie Monitoringsystemen die Werteorientierung des Verhaltens der Mitarbeiter abzusichern. In unserer Studie können drei Typen von Unternehmen identifiziert werden, die hinsichtlich der Compliance unterschiedliche Wege eingeschlagen haben: (i) Entkoppelung von Organisationssystemen und propagierten Grundwerten, (ii) explizite Ablehnung von formalen Compliance-Maßnahmen und Konzentration auf intrinsische Motivation zu wertekonformem Verhalten, und (iii) Einsatz formaler Maßnahmen (Anreiz-, Bewertungs-, Selektions- und Kontrollsysteme) im Sinne eines integrierten Compliance-Ansatzes. Jeder Typus weist dabei nach Ansicht der befragten Führungskräfte spezifische Vor- und Nachteile auf, die im Weiteren dargestellt werden (Abschnitt 4). Zunächst erscheint es jedoch notwendig, den Begriff der Compliance in die Literatur einzuordnen (Abschnitt 2) sowie die Möglichkeiten der Herbeiführung wertekonformen Verhaltens durch die Gestaltung formaler Organisationssysteme generell zu diskutieren (Abschnitt 3).
