Seit einigen Jahren lässt sich ein Perspektivenwechsel in der Marketingwissenschaft und Managementlehre beobachten, der den Kunden in den Mittelpunkt aller Betrachtungen stellt. Während die Kundenorientierung als Leitmotiv nicht neu ist, trifft dies jedoch auf die konsequente Bewertung von Entscheidungen hinsichtlich ihres Einflusses auf den Wert der Kunden eines Unternehmens zu, der in Anlehnung an die angelsächsische Forschung auch als Customer Equity bezeichnet wird (Blattberg/Deighton 1996). Customer Equity steht für einen immateriellen Vermögensgegenstand, dessen Wert sich aus den zukünftigen Einzahlungsüberschüssen durch den Aufbau neuer und den Erhalt bzw. die Ausschöpfung bestehender Kundenbeziehungen erschließt.
