Zusammenfassung
Die Fähigkeit von Unternehmen, ihre Leistungen wirksam im Wettbewerb zu differenzieren, besitzt ohne Zweifel einen zentralen Stellenwert im Marketing sowohl aus wissenschaftlicher als auch aus Managementsicht. Dies gilt besonders für Commodities, die trotz mehr oder weniger vorhandener, objektiv differenzierender Leistungsmerkmale als relativ austauschbar wahrgenommen werden. Die Herausforderung besteht darin, Alleinstellungsmerkmale für eine Leistung (wieder-) herzustellen, die für den Nachfrager wahrnehmbar und vor allem relevant sind. Nur unter dieser Voraussetzung können sich Commodity-Anbieter einem reinen Preiswettbewerb entziehen.
