Zusammenfassung
Im Vergleich zu den klassischen Konstruktionselementen nehmen mikromechanische Systeme heute noch eine Sonderstellung ein. Die Besonderheit liegt vor allem in der Größenordnung der mechanischen Abmessungen und der auftretenden Kräfte. Bauteile im Mikrometermaßstab sind im Wesentlichen nur aus solchen Materialien herstellbar, deren Strukturierung aus der Halbleitertechnologie beherrscht wird, die aber im Allgemeinen tribologisch nicht optimiert sind. Mikromechanische Bauteile arbeiten in CD-Playern, in Digitalkameras, in Instrumenten der minimal invasiven Chirurgie sowie als Beschleunigungssensoren im Auto. Manche Mikrosensoren, wie z. B. Airbagsensoren, werden nach einmaligem Ansprechen ausgetauscht und müssen auch keine „tribologische Funktion“ erfüllen, so dass weder Reibung noch Verschleiß eine Rolle spielen. Anders ist die Situation bei den elektronischen Datenaufzeichnungssystemen, die wegen ihrer Bedeutung für die technologische Entwicklung und Fragen der Mikrotribologie hier behandelt werden. Mikro-elektro-mechanische Systeme (MEMS) werden in Kapitel 13 beschrieben.
