In diesem Abschnitt stellen wir einen alternativen Zugang zu dem Faktorring \( \left( {\mathbb{Z}/m\mathbb{Z}, \oplus , \odot } \right) \) von ℤ nach dem Ideal mℤ vor, der durch das sogenannte Rechnen mit Kongruenzen motiviert ist. Dazu machen wir folgende Definition 1.1. Es sei \( m \in \mathbb{N} \) und m > 0. Für \( a,b \in \mathbb{Z} \) definieren wir
und nennen a kongruent b modulo m. Die Relation (1) heißt Kongruenz modulo m, die natürliche Zahl m wird Modul der Kongruenz (1) genannt.
