Abstract

The EU Directive on services in the single market has been resolved. It should contribute to making the European Union into the most competitive and dynamic economic area in the world by 2010. The implementation of this Directive within a very short period of only three years will lead in Germany to enormous changes in all administrative areas. The key elements of the Services Directive (EU-SD) are administrative simplification, the creation of standard contact partners for the support of the service providers in all processes and formalities for the access to the single services market and for the exercise of service activity as well as the fully electronic handling of all processes and formalities. The Services Directive is a major support for the further development of the e-government strategy of the Federal state of Baden-Württemberg and fits perfectly into the overall total strategy of the one stop government. An important role in this respect is the securing of the access and the data through suitable mechanisms.
