Der Begriff „Vulnerabilität“ („Verletzlichkeit“) wird verstanden als die mögliche Schädigung, die ein Bauwerk infolge eines Erdbebens, erleiden bzw. aushalten kann. Im Folgenden wird ein mehrstufiges Konzept zur Bestimmung der seismischen Vulnerabilität von bestehenden Bauwerken vorgestellt. Der Analyseaufwand wird hierbei durch die Bedeutung des Bauwerks, die seismische Standortgefährdung sowie durch die Ergebnisse in den aufeinander aufbauenden Untersuchungsstufen festgelegt. Das Konzept stellt für den Ingenieur in der Praxis ein Werkzeug dar, mit dem er die Vulnerabilität von Bauwerken problemorientiert und effizient bestimmen kann.
