Das erste Ziel dieses Buches besteht darin, in Erinnerung zu bringen, dass die traditionelle mitteleuropäische Kulturlandschaft etwas Einmaliges auf der Erde ist. Ihre Bewohner sollten stolz auf sie sein. Zu ihr gehört auch fast der gesamte Wald; aus rein praktischen Erwägungen beschränken wir uns jedoch auf das Offenland, welches zum größten Teil landwirtschaftlich genutzt wird.
