Zusammenfassung
Als Hypertonie wird jede die Norm überschreitende, andauernde Steigerung des arteriellen Blutdrucks bezeichnet. Die Schwierigkeit der Abgrenzung liegt im Begriff der Norm des Blutdrucks. Wegen dessen kontinuierlichem Anstieg im Wachstumsalter können die Angaben zur Diagnose der Hypertonie im Erwachsenenalter nicht auf die pädiatrische Altersgruppe übertragen werden. In zahlreichen epidemiologischen Studien wurden Blutdruckperzentilen für das Kindesalter erarbeitet [8–10]. Hierbei korreliert der Blutdruck besser mit der Körpergröße als mit dem Lebensalter. Wegen der zeitlichen Schwankungen sollten Blutdruckwerte erst dann als hypertensiv betrachtet werden, wenn sie bei mindestens 3 zeitlich getrennten Messungen über der 95. Perzentile liegen (Abb. 1).
