Zusammenfassung
Der Begriff Viktimologie (von lat. victima = Opfer) bezeichnet eine meist als Teilgebiet der Kriminologie verstandene wissenschaftliche Disziplin, in deren Zentrum Opfer von Straftaten stehen. Zwar sind zuweilen breiter gefasste Konzepte anzutreffen (vgl. Garkawe 2004), denen zufolge das Betroffensein durch vielfältige Arten schädigender Widerfahrnisse (Verkehrsunfälle, Naturkatastrophen etc.) Gegenstand der Viktimologie sei, doch hat sich die Engführung auf Opfer von Straftaten weitgehend durchgesetzt. Eine „allgemeine Opferlehre“ wäre — so (1993, S. 582) — „im Gefolge der Unschärfe des Opferbegriffs zu wenig konturiert“. Die Viktimologie ist ein interdisziplinäres Forschungsfeld, an dem insbesondere Rechtswissenschaftler, Soziologen und Psychologen beteiligt sind.
