Zusammenfassung
In den bisherigen Ü berlegungen stand die Schätzung von Einzelgleichungen im Vordergrund. Dabei wurde eine einseitige „Kausalitätsbeziehung“ zwischen der abhängigen Variable y und den erklärenden oder unabhängigen Variablen X i (i = 1,2…,K) derart unterstellt, dass die Variablen x i zwar die Variable y beeinflussen, jedoch selbst unabhängig von y sind, d.h. dass keine Feedback-Beziehung existiert. Es gibt viele Beispiele dafür, dass die Einzelgleichungsbetrachtung nicht konsistent mit der ökonomischen Theorie ist. Betrachten wir z.B. die Preisbildung für ein Gut x auf einem polypolistischen Gütermarkt. Die ökonomische Theorie lehrt uns, dass der Preis p dieses Gutes nicht nur von der Nachfrage, sondern auch vom Angebot abhängig ist und dass die beobachteten Preisdaten das Ergebnis der Aktivitäten beider Marktseiten sind. In der Regel wird die Preisbildung auf einem derartigen Markt durch ein Gleichgewichtsmodell der folgenden Art beschrieben: Modell I: Standardmodell der Preistheorie

wobei x d die nachgefragte Menge,x s die angebotene Menge und p den Preis des Gutes x darstellt und u und v stochastische Störglieder bezeichnen. Aus diesem Modell ist ersichtlich, dass Preis und Menge simultan durch Angebot und Nachfrage bestimmt werden.
