Abstract

The house and studio project in Almere demonstrates that low-budget building and high aesthetic demands is not necessarily a contradiction in terms. The successful collaboration between the clients [two artists] and the architects resulted in a house with a special character based on an unpretentious loadbearing structure, a straightforward plan layout and the use of “cheap materials” such as corrugated sheet metal and plastic. High cellings, an open-plan arrangement and, above all, the treatment of light have resulted in high-quality accommodation.
