Abstract

A barn and stable high in the mountains, facing La Dent Blanche, In summer, hay; in winter, snow — and the danger of avalanche Precise construction: stone walls for the stable, timber for the barn. The two to be combined, one above the other, anchored in the hillside, the result a single structure of exact proportions (4 × 5 × 3), extended by drystone-covered roofing, Protection against avalanches, inhabitable space, temperature control, waterproofing. First dismantling, inventorying, preserving; then installing the protective features; and finally: rebuilding. Concrete work, engineers’ risk calculations, new utilities (kitchen, bathroom). Just so many ways of enclosing and protecting the new dwelling. below, the stone room; above, the wooden one.
