Zusammenfassung
Der menschliche Atemrhythmus unter Schlaf- oder normalen Ruhebedingungen wird durch “atmungsspezifische” Neurone im Hirnstamm gesteuert. Während vieler menschlicher Aktivitäten, wie z.B. Sprechen, willkürliches Ein- und Ausatmen oder Veränderungen von Gefühlslagen, kommt es zu einer Modulierung der Atmung; hierfür sind vermutlich Strukturen des Zentralnervensystems oberhalb des Hirnstamms zuständig.
