Zusammenfassung
Die Expressed-Emotions-Forschung kann als Beispiel für die konsequente und erfolgreiche Fortentwicklung eines Forschungsansatzes dienen. Die aus retrospektiven Korrelationsuntersuchungen gewonnenen Hypothesen wurden im Verlauf eines prospektiven Prädiktorendesigns und schließlich in Interventionsstudien, die auf den Grundannahmen der EE-Forschung beruhen, geprüft. Das Fortschreiten der Erkenntnisse hat einen erheblichen Wandel in den ursprünglichen Modellvorstellungen mit sich gebracht, auch wird in den Interventionsstudien das EE-Verhalten nicht länger als die therapeutisch zu beeinflussende Größe definiert, sondern familiäre Coping-Patterns und familiäre Problemlösung.
