Summary

The stand-off distance of detached shock waves in internal transonic flows depends not only on the shape of the profile (body) in front of which the shock occurs: it is strongly affected by the channel geometry. The front shock waves can easily be misinterpreted with shock waves terminating the region of supersonic flow in the channel.
