Zusammenfassung
Trichomonas vaginalis-Infektionen und speziell ihre häufigste Manifestationsform — die Trichomonaden-Kolpitis — stellen sexuell übertragene Erkrankungen dar, die einerseits schon vergleichsweise lange bekannt sind und andererseits auch heute noch in großen Zahlen auftreten. Bereits 1836 beschrieb Donné [9] bewegliche Mikroorganismen in dem eitrigen Ausfluß von Patientinnen mit Kolpitis. Die Weltgesundheits-Organisation ging vor einigen Jahren von 180 Millionen Fällen von Trichomonaden-Infektionen im Jahr aus [4]. Allein in den Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika werden 2,5 bis 3 Millionen Erkrankungsfälle jährlich angenommen [25]. Eine gewisse Sonderstellung kommt Trichomonadeninfektionen innerhalb des Gesamts der sexuell übertragenen Erkrankungen insofern zu, als die Übertragung von Trichomonas vaginalis direkt mit der Übertragung weiterer STD-Erreger verknüpft sein zu können scheint und Trichomonaden-Infektionen bis heute nur durch ein einziges Chemotherapeutikum, nämlich Metronidazol (und seine Derivate), erfolgreich bekämpft werden können.
