Abstract
When the surgical clipping of cerebral aneurysms was in its infancy, the operation mortality was 50%, which was no better than the mortality rate of those patients who did not undergo acute aneurysm surgery [123]. This figure dropped to 4–7% as a result of the introduction of microsurgery, increasing technical and microanatomic experience, new instruments, and improved anesthesia [179–183, 197, 212, 214].
