Abstract

The genome of parsley (Petroselinum crispum) is made up of different sequence classes; i.e. various repetitive classes and unique DNA. By DNA/RNA hybridization techniques we investigated which DNA classes code for the different RNA species. Ribosomal RNA is transcribed from middle repetitive sequences. On the basis of the hybridization data we calculated 2,880 ribosomal genes per haploid genome. Poly(A)mRNAs are only coded for by unique DNA sequences. Preliminary results show that poly(A) hn RNA differing from poly(A)mRNA in size, labelling kinetics, and sequence complexity, is coded for by unique sequences, too.
