Plant Layout and Design
The capital investment for a new plant in the structural clay products industry is considerable. Because the unit price for the product is low, there is a minimum size for a plant and its daily output in order to be profitable. Modern brick and structural-tile factories are usually designed in production units of 100,000 standard brick-equivalents per day, and pipe plants should have a minimum output of 120 tons of ware per day. Probably the economic break-even point for face-brick production is about 60,000 units per day.
