Since 1958 in our department we have examined approximately 900 cases of Parkinson’s disease. Parkinsonism and related disorders with tremor as a main symptom, among these patients we saw 71 cases in which the tremor was more obvious during voluntary movement or in an active posture than at rest. Most of these showed at rest no tremor at all. No rigidity was found nor cogwheel phenomenon. These syndromes are extensively discussed by McDonald Critchley (1949) and more recently by E. Critchley (1972), whilst the mechanisms of tremors and the therapeutic possibilities have been studied by Poirier (1970).
