Abstract
On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the “Internationale Universitätswochen für Kernphysik” in Schladming I want to take the opportunity to give a review of the past meetings. Our conferences in Schladming can certainly be viewed as a reflection of the developments in high energy physics in the last ten years. During this time a large amount of new information was generated — some of it helped to clarify open questions and to understand certain phenomena, other parts of it, however, generated new problems. Our Schladming meeting is to my knowledge the first winterschool in elementary particle physics and it might be of interest to note, how this winterschool originated: The idea was born during a skiing weekend of our Institute; as usual where physicists come together, we talked physics during and after skiing. There the thought occurred, that we should extend these discussions by inviting scientists from other institutions and by letting interested young physicists take part in the exchange of ideas.
