Zusammenfassung
Die Effektivität von verhaltenstherapeutischen Strategien bei der Behandlung von Zwangsstörungen kann heute als gut belegt angesehen werden. Kontrollierte Studien zur Behandlung von Zwängen berichten Effektivitäts-Quoten zwischen 60 und 85% an PatientInnen, die nach der Therapie deutlich gebessert sind (siehe Rachman und Hodgson 1980, Foa et al. 1985, Steketee und Tynes 1991, Emmelkamp 1986, 1987, 1991, Marks 1987, Salkovskis 1989, Turner und Beidel 1988). Eine umfangreiche Metaanalyse (Balkom et al. 1994) räumt dabei den kognitiv-verhaltenstherapeutischen Strategien einen geradezu herausragenden Stellenwert mit Effektstärken von 1,6 bis 1,8 ein. Die Suche nach entsprechenden Studien außerhalb des verhaltenstherapeutischen Spektrums (ausgenommen Medikamentenstudien) ist dabei offenbar völlig ergebnislos verlaufen.
