Pathological aspects in a series of 53 cavernous sinus tumors

Abstract

In the last ten years we have had the opportunity to study 53 oncological neurosurgical specimens of cavernous sinus among a total of 6000 (six thousand) neurosurgical specimens (Table 1). The first case was a classical patient who had Garcin’s syndrome due to a pharyngeal cylindrome invading cavernous sinus. Later on we examined meningiomas around the cavernous sinus, meningiomas invading the cavernous sinus, tumors of nerves and metastasis. The question was raised which kind of tumor can appear in the cavernous sinus and how these tumors extend.
