Zusammenfassung
Die Kombination von rascher Rotation und das Vorhandensein einer äußeren Konvektionszone, führt unweigerlich zur Entstehung eines stellaren Magnetfeldes. Den eigentlichen Mechanismus der ein Magnetfeld erzeugt, nennt man den stellaren Dynamo. Leider muß an dieser Stelle gleich gesagt werden, daß es zu diesem Phänomen noch keine ausreichend quantitativen stellare Beobachtungen gibt, die es erlauben würden, verschiedene Dynamomodelle zu testen und zu unterscheiden. Trotzdem gibt es einen besonders kritischen Test: jedes Dynamomodell muß die Phänomenologie der aktiven Sonne erklären, etwa den elfjährigen Fleckenzyklus oder das Schmetterlings-Diagramm… und daran sind bis heute die meisten Modelle gescheitert.

M. Stix’s Buch über The Sun (Springer, Berlin, 1989) ist eine Zusammenfassung des heutigen Kenntnisstandes über die Sonne und deren magnetischer Aktivitäten.
Solar Magnetohydrodynamics von Eric R. Priest, erschienen 1982 bei Reidel, Dordrecht, setzt tiefere mathematische Kenntnisse voraus und ist besonders für den Fachastronomen bestimmt.
Viele Details über solare Magnetfelder finden sich in solar magnetic fields, herausgegeben von Manfred Schüssler und Wolfgang Schmidt (Cambridge University Press, Cambridge, 1994).
Eines der klassischen Proceedings über solare Magnetfelder ist das Buch herausgegeben von E.-H. Schröter, The role of fine-scale magnetic fields on the structure of the solar atmosphere (Cambridge University Press, Cambridge, 1986).
