Zusammenfassung
Fortran 90 trägt dem Umstand, daß die meisten Algorithmen der Numerischen Datenverarbeitung mit Matrizen operieren, insofern Rechnung, als es viele Sprachelemente enthält, die ganze Felder (arrays) verarbeiten können. Ohne Sprachelemente, die Manipulationen mit ganzen Feldern ermöglichen, wäre man gezwungen, z. B. Matrizenmanipulationen mit Hilfe von Schleifen elementweise durchzuführen, wobei die Element-operationen nacheinander ausgeführt würden.
