Abstract
Allocortical (limbic) structures run at a nearly concentric course surrounding Corpus callosum:
-
Dorsal from Corpus callosum: Striae corporis callosi and the allo- and mesocortical Gyrus cinguli (Mesocortex: Mixtum of Alloand Neocortex)

Basal from Corpus callosum: Fornix, Area dentata, Hippocampus, Gyrus parahippocampalis deviate in a basolateral direction. Transversal transections of these allocortical structures are given by concentric slices of MRI. The center of the curvature of Fornix is located close to Adhaesio interthalamica (see Figs. 57 to 72). Transversal presentations are favorable for spatial imagination, as it is necessary for the neurosurgeon and the neuroradiologist. Elderly individuals with a brain atrophy (CSF-spaces widened) may present the shapes of cerebral structures better than younger individuals, as seen in Figs. 57 to 72. However, the temporomedial Allocortex is not presented as clearly: this is seen dorsomedially, because there is no atrophy of the hippocampal area, and Cornu inf. is not widened. Concentric slices are not easy to understand. For a better orientation some slices of MRI may be selected from the series of concentric slices:

Slice 6 represents the typical configuration of coronal slices at the level of the posterior wall of Porus acusticus ext.

Slice 7 transects the anterior wall of Porus acust. ext. Note the configuration of Pons: The difference between slice 7 and conventional coronal slices is minimal, because Pons and Porus acusticus ext. are located in the same basal area dorsal from Clivus
