Zusammenfassung

Die Differentialdiagnose von Depression und Demenz gestaltet sich im klinischen Alltag der Gerontopsychiatrie häufig als besonders schwierig, denn gerade bei älteren Patienten kommt es oft zu einer Überlappung von Krankheitssymptomen, die mit einer Alzheimer Demenz [AD], bzw. einer Depression einhergehen (Lauter and Dame, 1992; Kötter et al., 1996). Dabei kann es sich sowohl um die krankheits-charakterisierenden kognitiven und depressiven Kernsymptome als auch um begleitende Symptome handeln, wie beispielsweise psychovegetative Störungen oder Störungen des Antriebes sowie des Sozialverhaltens.
