Part of the book series: Acta Neurochirurgica Supplements ((NEUROCHIRURGICA,volume 77))

Abstract

Endothelin (ET)-l has demonstrated a wide variety of effects throughout the body. Studies have shown effects on bronchial constriction, on the kidneys, even as a potential neurotransmitter [20, 27, 40, 44]. Its effects on the vasculature have been widely studied [8, 32, 45]. Specifically, ET-1 has been studied with respect to its role in the development of subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH)-induced vasospasm. Following is a summary of ET-1 and its role in SAH-induced vasospasm.
