Form and Movement

  • Jürgen Weber

The first thing a baby sees is movement. Initially the baby’s movements, known as mass movements, are very uncoordinated. In its second year, its movements are more directed, as it ventures further into the space around it, and finally starts to scribble (16 and 17). In these scribbles we can clearly trace the infant’s moving hand or circling arm.
