Die Kurzwellenhyperthermie

Zusammenfassung

Wie bereits erwähnt, machte Whitney von der General Electric Company 1928 die Beobachtung, daß Leute, die an starken Kurzwellensendern arbeiteten, eine erhöhte Körpertemperatur aufwiesen. Gestützt auf diese Beobachtung baute man in Amerika Kurzwellenapparate, durch welche die allgemeine Körpertemperatur erhöht, also eine Art Fieber erzeugt werden sollte. Man hat diese Methode als Elektropyrexie und die dadurch bedingte Temperatursteigerung als elektrisches Fieber bezeichnet. Die Kurzwellenhyperthermie sollte dazu dienen, die Malariatherapie und andere Fieberkuren zu ersetzen. In Amerika war es also die Allgemeinbehandlung, mit der die Kurzwellen in die Heilkunde eingeführt wurden, im Gegensatz zu Europa, wo man die Kurzwellen zuerst zur örtlichen Behandlung benützte. Wenn auch die allgemeine wie die örtliche Kurzwellentherapie auf denselben physikalischen, technischen und biologischen Grundlagen beruhen, so weicht die allgemeine Hyperthermie von der örtlichen doch bezüglich ihrer Anwendungsform und ihren Heilanzeigen so weit ab, daß eine gesonderte Besprechung gerechtfertigt erscheint.
