Zusammenfassung
Die zu einer Routine gewordenen Operationen am offenen Herzen haben den Bedarf an Spenderblut enorm gesteigert. Das Hauptproblem stellt dabei die Beschaffung des Füllblutes für die Herz-Lungen-Maschine dar. Je nach Größe und Modell werden zwischen 3 und 6 Liter Blut benötigt. Dieses Blut ist heparinisiert und muß aus diesem Grund wenige Stunden vor dem Eingriff abgenommen werden. Dieser Umstand und die Gefahren einer Bluttransfusion an sich haben dazu geführt, neue Wege zu suchen, um die benötigte Blutmenge zu reduzieren.
