Summary

The early origin of disturbances of sexual behaviour can be shown retrospectively by psychoanalytic methods. Experimentally it is possible to obtain more direct proofs by hypnosis or by the use of psychotomimetic drugs which produce a psychological age regression.

A clinical example is described. The patient relived the traumatic experiences that he had had in childhood when he was one and three years old; these had definitely given rise to the subsequent sexual disturbance of impotence.
