Zusammenfassung

Die Lungenembolie ist bei Herzkrankheiten eine sehr häufige Komplikation, welche oft übersehen und in Lehrbüchern und klinischen Erörterungen noch immer sehr vernachlässigt wird. Die Chirurgen wissen etwas mehr von der Bedeutung dieses Ereignisses, ihre Statistiken ergaben, daß ungefähr 6 Prozent der postoperativen Todesfälle auf diese gefürchtete Komplikation zurückzuführen sind. Die Situation ist besonders tragisch, da oft Patienten betroffen werden, welche sich freiwillig einer erfolgreichen Operation unterzogen haben; eben haben sie die Erlaubnis erhalten, das Bett zu verlassen, sie warten mit Sehnsucht auf die völlige Genesung und baldige Entlassung aus dem Krankenhaus, da bricht plötzlich das Unheil herein.
