Abstract

In this paper an overview of the different data collected in the Mount Etna area is presented. Clinometric observations, geodetic trilateration, gravity measurements and spirit leveling have been performed for a long period, so that comparisons and integrated results can be derived. These classical geodetic data can be also linked to seismic and geological investigations to obtain a reliable risk evaluation model suitable for preventing from catastrophic events.

Furthermore, GPS observations carried out during the period 1990–1992 have been deeply analyzed to define their effectiveness in detecting the global displacement features of the volcano. Provisional conclusions of this investigation are derived and some comments on the method and the present network configuration are given.
