Abstract
Finite element calculations for predicting deformations due to deep excavations are presented. As it is a much debated issue how complex the constitutive model has to be in order to obtain the results required from the practical point of view a numerical study is made for a deep excavation. The problem has been chosen such it can be regarded as a simplified analysis of a real construction site. The influence of the constitutive model is shown by comparing results obtained from a Mohr-Coulomb and a Hardening Soil model. In addition, the influence of different strut levels and the wall stiffness on deformation behaviour and bending moments is investigated.
