Die Seife ist das Alkalisalz der höheren Fettsäuren und ist in Wasser mehr oder weniger leicht löslich, je nach der Art des verwendeten Fettkörpers, sie ist aber auf alle Fälle gänzlich löslich in heißem, kalkfreiem Wasser.
