Zusammenfassung
Das Wissen um die physikalischen, biologischen und medizinischen Effekte der UV-Strahlung stellt die Grundlage für eine gezielte Prävention dar. In den letzten Jahren haben bahnbrechende Forschungen lange geltende Dogmen über UV-induzierte Hautschäden und ihre Prävention völlig umgestoßen. Dazu gehört auch die Erkenntnis über die zuvor als eher harmlos eingeschätzte UVA-Strahlung, die nicht nur das Hauptaktionsspektrum vieler Fotodermatosen und der lichtbedingten Alterung darstellt, sondern darüber hinaus als potentieller Melanom-Auslöser erkannt wurde. Auch im Hinblick auf die Durchführung des UV-Schutzes lassen neue Erkenntnisse die übliche Handhabung von Lichtschutzmitteln, insbesondere unter der hohen UV-Belastung im Gebirge als völlig unzureichend erscheinen.
