Zusammenfassung
Altern stellt einen komplexen, multifaktoriellen Prozess dar, der in Abhängigkeit vom jeweiligen Organsystem schon früh beginnen kann. So zeigen sich z. B. an der Niere schon ab dem 40. Lebensjahr Veränderungen der Organdurchblutung, die bereits als Beginn eines Alterungsprozesses gesehen werden. Die Alterungsvorgänge haben im Allgemeinen eine Abnahme der Funktionalität der Organsysteme zur Folge. Diese physiologischen altersassoziierten Rückbildungsprozesse führen nicht immer zu einer für den Betroffenen spürbaren Funktionsbeeinträchtigung, bewirken jedoch eine Einschränkung der Fähigkeiten von verschiedenen Homöostase-erhaltenden biologischen Prozessen.
Im Folgenden werden die altersbedingten Veränderungen einzelner Organsysteme kurz dargestellt. In ◘ Tab. 4.1 werden wichtige altersphysiologische Veränderungen verschiedener Organsysteme und die damit assoziierten Dysfunktionen und Erkrankungen zusammengefasst.
