Die Evolutionsbiologie ist ein Teilgebiet der Biologie. Sie beschäftigt sich mit der langfristigen Anpassung von Lebewesen an Umweltbedingungen, den dahinter liegenden Entwicklungsprozessen, Funktionen und Mechanismen sowie der Aufspaltung in neue Arten aufgrund dieser Evolution. Ziel ist es, evolutionsbiologische Prozesse wie etwa ökologische Anpassungen, Entstehung der Sexualität oder Kooperations- und Sozialverhalten zu erörtern. Die Spannbreite der Arbeiten beinhaltet ökologische, molekulare, verhaltensbiologische und theoretische Ansätze. Sylvia ✉ist an der evolutionären Immuno-logie von Ameisengesellschaften interessiert. Gemeinsam mit ihrem Team untersucht sie die individuelle und kollektive Krankheitsabwehr bei Ameisen, indem sie deren Hygieneverhalten beobachtet und ihre Immunabwehr misst. Abstract

Evolutionary biology is a sub-discipline of biology, studying the long-term adaptation of living organisms to environmental conditions, the evolutionary processes, functions and mechanisms involved, as well as the origin of new species. Its goal is to explain evolutionary processes such as ecological adaptation, the origins of sexuality or cooperation and social behavior. The range of work includes ecological, molecular, ethological and theoretical approaches. Sylvia Cremer is interested in the evolutionary immunology in ant societies. She and her team examine the individual and collective anti-pathogen defenses in ants by observing their hygiene behavior and measuring their immunologicai defense. The New York Times published an article on her latest research project on “cooperative immunology in ants” in spring ✉✉✉.
