Abstract
Artists-in-labs: Networking in the Margins is the second volume in this series of cultural studies, that blurs the boundaries between art and science research. This book presents case studies from 2007 to 2009 by 12 artists from the disciplines of sculpture, installation, performance and sound, in collaboration with scientists from the fields of physics, computer technologies, environmental ecology, neuroscience and psychology. While artists have become more involved in ethical and social debates about scientific discovery, scientists have been exposed to the processes and contexts of art. Thus, networking in the margins of art and science tends to expand the borders of the exact sciences and to contribute to a more robust level of dialogue within the humanities and the arts. These trans-disciplinary potentials are contextualized by 9 prominent authors, who each shed light on the future implications of such interactions for society.
