Zusammenfassung
Bisher wurde der Zusammenhang zwischen dem langfristigen Kostenverlauf und der Produktmenge im Rahmen einer „gedanklich-experimentellen Analyse“1) untersucht. Es ist nun zu prüfen, inwieweit sich die Ergebnisse dieser Analyse auf Grund von Kostenplanungen und empirisch-statistischen Erhebungen bestätigen lassen. Trotz einer Flut von spekulativen Überlegungen ist noch wenig über die wirklichen Beziehungen zwischen der Betriebsgröße und den Kosten oder der Rentabilität bekannt2). Die Ursache für den Mangel an empirischen Kenntnissen liegt in den mannigfachen Schwierigkeiten, denen derartige Erhebungen begegnen. Eine Bestätigung oder Falsifikation von konjekturalen Kostenkurven, die der Unternehmungsplanung zugrunde liegen, durch statistisch-empirische Kostenanalysen ist nur sehr beschränkt möglich. Die konjekturalen Kostenkurven geben Planwerte unter ganz bestimmten Erwartungen wieder, stellen also eine Ex-ante-Betrachtung dar3). Die statistischen Werte sind dagegen eine Expost-Betrachtung. Die empirisch gefundenen Zahlen sind durch Irrtümer in der Planung hinsichtlich der bereits gegebenen und der erwarteten Sachverhalte sowie durch Reaktionen auf diese Irrtümer verzerrt.
