An Efficient Parallel Solution Technique for the Incompressible Navier-Stokes Equations

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Notes on Numerical Fluid Mechanics (NNFM) ((NNFM,volume 47))

Summary

In this paper a parallel finite volume solution method for the Navier-Stokes equations is presented. The solution procedure is based on collocated blockstructured grids, iterative pressure-velocity coupling of SIMPLE type, multigrid methods, and automatic grid partitioning. A high numerical efficiency is ensured by the nonlinear multigrid method. The parallelization follows the message passing strategy allowing the code to be run on a wide range of actual parallel hardware platforms without much porting effort. By considering several 2-d and 3-d flow problems aspects concerning the numerical and parallel performance of the solver are discussed for different parallel architectures.
