Abstract

It is clear from Section 2.3 that standard Lyapunov functions are of little use in the investigation of pendulum-like systems. So such systems with multiple equilibria need new classes of Lyapunov functions to be constructed. In this chapter and in the following ones we shall demonstrate several new methods which extend the Lyapunov direct method to systems with multiple equilibria.
