Zusammenfassung
In allen westlichen Demokratien gibt es heute eine Gruppe von Berufspolitikern, die in Max Webers einprägsamen Worten nicht nur wie die alten Honoratioren „fair die Politik“, sondern auch „von der Politik“ leben (Weber 1994: 42). Politik ist nicht nur Kampf um Macht, Tätigkeit fiir das Gemeinwohl oder Ausgestaltung kollektiver Lebensbedingungen, sondern eben auch ein Beruf. „Politik als Beruf“ war historisch durchaus nicht immer und nicht überall eine empirische Realität, sondern ist vielmehr das Ergebnis eines national recht unterschiedlich verlaufenden Professionalisierungsprozesses. Dieser Prozeß und seine — wie Weber bereits vorausschauend erkannte — weitreichenden Implikationen werden jedoch allzu häufig vernachlässigt. Ein Ziel des vorliegendes Bandes ist es daher, dieses Thema wieder zu aktualisieren und auf seine Bedeutung hinzuweisen.1
