Zusammenfassung
Bereits seit Beginn meiner Berufstätigkeit als Psychiater in der Mitte der 60er Jahre kam ich mit Gruppentherapie in Berührung. Ich arbeitete in der Sozialpsychiatrie, wo die Milieutherapie und die Gruppentherapie zentrale Behandlungskonzepte waren und ich fast täglich sowohl die kreativen als auch die destruktiven Möglichkeiten von Gruppen illustriert bekam. Mein Interesse dafür, Therapiegruppen tiefgreifender zu erforschen, wurde alsbald geweckt, und ich begann, nachdem ich mir einen gruppenanalytischen Referenzrahmen — von S.H. Foulkes und seinen Nachfolgern entwickelt — angeeignet hatte, mich auf Gruppenprozesse unter dem Blickwinkel gruppenanalytischer Begriffe zu konzentrieren, wie z.B. „Gruppen-Matrix“, „Transpersonelle Prozesse“ und „Lokalisierung“ (Foulkes 1964, 1976). Innerhalb dieses Referenzrahmens, der eine enge Anknüpfung an psychoanalytische Theorien hat, wird angenommen, daß die intrapsychische und interpersonelle Dynamik und die Veränderungsprozesse der Gruppenmitglieder in einer für die Gruppe insgesamt vorhandenen Matrix begründet sind. Diese Matrix setzt sich einerseits aus dem zusammen, was von jedem Mitglied durch die Einwirkung von Sprache, Kultur, sozialen und geschlechtstypischen Umständen im früheren Leben erworben wurde und in die Gruppe eingebracht wird, andererseits aus Beiträgen, die von den jeweiligen Persönlichkeitsmustern der Mitglieder und von deren ungelösten intrapsychischen Konflikten bestimmt werden. Diese Persönlichkeitsmuster resultieren aus dem Zusammenspiel innerhalb der Familie während der Kinderjahre. Den erstgenannten Aspekt bezeichnete Foulkes als die grundlegende Matrix, der später genannte entfaltet sich in den Interaktionen in der Gruppe und formt deren dynamische Matrix. Die Begriffe beziehen sich im wesentlichen auf nichtbewußte Funktionen in der Gruppe. Aus wissenschaftstheoretischer Sicht sind sie in der vorliegenden Konzeptualisierung Abstraktionen, die nicht direkt in Gruppenereignissen nachgewiesen werden können. Ihre Richtigkeit und Nützlichkeit zeigt sich erst durch ihre Anwendung, z.B. entsprechende Deutungen, auf sonst unverständliche oder scheinbar unzusammenhängende, zufällige Ereignisabläufe in der Gruppe, die durch sie einen Sinn erhalten.
