In der Bundesrepublik Deutschland (TS 1992) gibt es etwa 3.000 öffentliche Freibäder, die größtenteils auch beheizt werden. In mehr als 200 Freibädern sind thermische Solaranlagen mit einer Absorberfläche von etwa 140.000 m2 installiert worden.
