A Factor in Diabetic Serum Stimulating Proliferation of Arterial Medial Cell Culture

Abstract

It is well known that abnormalities of the large blood vessels are common in diabetics after many years of disease (Clawson and Bell, 1949; Lundæk, 1953; Garcia et al., 1974). However, the nature of these large vessel abnormalities is not clear today. Of course diabetic patients develop atherosclerosis just as do non-diabetics. But various kinds of evidences suggest that besides atherosclerosis diabetics develop another probably specific type of large vessel abnormalities — a specific macroangiopathy.
