Zusammenfassung
Moderne technische Keramiken umfassen hochentwickelte nichtmetallische anorganische Werkstoffe, die zumeist aus künstlich synthetisierten Ausgangssubstanzen unter hochreinen und kontrollierten Bedingungen hergestellt werden. Sie unterscheiden sich dadurch grundlegend von den aus natürlichen, tonmineralhaltigen Rohstoffen gebrannten klassischen Keramiken, die als einer der ältesten Werkstoffe der Menschheit seit ca. 20.000 Jahren bekannt sind. Die technischen Keramiken werden bezüglich ihrer anwendungsrelevanten Werkstoffeigenschaften zumeist in die in Tabelle 1.1 zusammengefaßten Funktionsgruppen unterteilt.
