Zusammenfassung
Die Laplace-Transformation kann als eine Erweiterung der Fourier-Transformation aufgefaßt werden. Während die Fourier-Transformation eine Funktion als kontinuierliche Summe von komplexen Exponentialfunktionen der Form exp(jωt) darstellt, verwendet die Laplace-Transformation komplexe Exponentialfunktionen der Form exp(σt + jωt). Abhängig vom Wert des Parameters σ sind dieses abklingende, konstante oder anklingende sinusförmige Funktionen. Die Laplace-Transformierte einer Funktion ist daher eine analytische Fortsetzung der Fourier-Transformierten von der Achse der imaginären Frequenzparameter jω hinein in die Ebene der komplexen Parameter σ + jω.
